Why would I take a WSET course as Online or Distance Learning when there is a traditional classroom based taught version?
The key benefit of the Online or Distance Learning formats is flexibility. Not eveyone can commit to the taught, classroom options (1 day for Level 1, 3 days for Level 2). Instead you can work at your own pace and build your own study schedule around your other commitments and gain the same wine knowledge and qualifications. There are regular “check-in” points at the end of each module. You will submit your assignment for feedback and at each stage there will an opportunity to discuss any concerns or areas which you feel may require more focus.
Won’t I miss out on all the wine tasting?
Learning how to taste using the WSET Systematic Approach is a key part of all WSET qualifications. For the Distance Learning option you will find a list of recommended tasting samples included in your welcome pack to accompany the chapters. The initial Course Overview call with you will include an introduction to the WSET Systematic Approach and some of the assignments include tasting practice. It's then over to you to get as much tasting practice as possible. Look out for wine tasting events local to you and check the WSTA's diary for trade events who will usually be very happy to accommodate a WSET student attending.
Can the exams be taken online? The examination needs to be done in person, with photographic ID in a venue that has been approved by WSET. The date, time and venue will be agreed with you, aiming to be convenient as possible.
Do I need to have passed the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines to enrol on the Level 2? No, you can choose to dive straight in at Level 2 if you prefer.
